At least 27 people died in a head-on collision between a minibus and a cargo truck that occurred Friday night on the Harare-Masvingo highway, about 130 kilometers from the capital, the Zimbabwe Police confirmed this Saturday.

Police spokesman Paul Nyathi indicated that the minibus, which was transporting members of a local church to a religious conference, caught fire after the impact and was completely destroyed, EFE reported.

Two survivors, including the truck driver, were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police launched an investigation to determine the causes of the accident, while authorities urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in the area.

Zimbabwe has a high incidence of fatal road accidents. Data from the National Statistics Agency indicate 2,419 deaths and 11,544 injured in 59,928 accidents during 2025.
