Aircraft registered in the European Union recorded 116 fatalities during 2025

A total of 116 people died in plane crashes involving aircraft registered in the European Union (EU) throughout 2025, representing an increase of 25 fatalities compared to the figures reported in 2024, according to data released by the community statistical office, Eurostat.

According to the official air safety balance sheet, 94% of deaths (109 cases) occurred in the context of non-commercial operations, a category that includes corporate and private aviation flights, exhibitions, training and technical transfers, according to Prensa Latina.

On the other hand, commercial air transport recorded four deaths (3.4%), while specialized operations, such as photographic work, aerial advertising or agricultural fumigation, accounted for three victims (2.6%).

In relation to the means of transport involved, airplanes accounted for the majority of deaths with 79 people killed, followed by helicopters and gliders with 18 victims each, and a single death recorded in hot air balloons.

The agency highlighted that there were no fatal accidents related to the use of unmanned aircraft. With this consolidated, the statistics accumulated since 2021 by the European organization bring the total number of deaths in aviation accidents within the territory of the community block to 638.
