Alexa Álvarez won silver in the 61 kilos at the U20 World Wrestling Championship in Slovakia

The Venezuelan Alexa Álvarez won the silver medal in the 61 kilos of the U20 Licha World Championship held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The national gladiator began her journey in the joust of the world with two resounding victories due to technical superiority, in the round of 16 she beat the Kyrgyz Elmira Karabalaeva with a score of 11-0. Then, in the quarterfinals, she beat Kazakh Dinara Dauylkyzy in the same way.

Installed in the semifinal, Álvarez staged a fight with more resistance on the part of the Uzbek Sakibjamal Esbosynova, who eventually fell 12-2.

In the final, the Venezuelan faced Canadian Kaura Michelle, yielding with a technical score of 2-10.

This podium represents the second silver medal won by Venezuelan wrestling in editions of the U20 world championships that began in Boulder, United States, in 1969.

The first silver medal for the tricolor was won by Astrid Montero in the Amman, Jordan 2023 edition, when she fell due to technical superiority in the 62-kilo final against India Sabita Dalal.
