AN approved in the first discussion Partial Reform of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice

The deputies of the National Assembly (AN) approved, in the first discussion, unanimously, the Organic Bill for the Partial Reform of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

This legal instrument, presented by the first vice-president of the AN, Pedro Infante, contemplates, among other things, the modification of the structure of the Judicial Nominations Committee to expand the number of members that make up this body to 23.

“The concrete proposal is to move to 23 members of the Nominations Committee, with a very important substantive difference where we would leave the number of deputies at 11 and would go to 12 members from the different sectors of civil society or Venezuelan society,” he explained

During his speech, Infante framed the proposal in a broader judicial restructuring plan promoted since the beginning of the year by the Executive and the National Assembly, highlighting the renewal of the authorities of the Citizen Power and the advances achieved through the Amnesty Law.

In this regard, in the heat of the debate, the president of the AN, deputy Jorge Rodríguez, stressed that the reform to the Organic Law of the Supreme Court is to make “justice fairer, so that it does not penalize poverty. To eliminate, minimize or in any case punish the commodification of the administration of justice”.

“I invite you to go deep, we have no shame or fear in that regard. In going deep into a true transformation of the justice system. That the selection process of aspiring magistrates be carried out in strict accordance with constitutional and legal norms,” said Rodríguez.
