Bolivarian Government strengthens response capacity to weather events in hospitals in La Guaira

To strengthen the response capacity and resilience of hospital infrastructure to external environmental and climatic events, an important workshop was held for three weeks in the state of La Guaira, specifically at the Ana Teresa de Jesús Ponce Maternal and Child Hospital in Macuto, at the José María Vargas Hospital in La Guaira and at the Doctor Rafael Medina Jiménez Peripheral Hospital of Pariata.

As reported by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the activities were led by the sectoral vice-president of Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health, Dr. Isabel Iturria, accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, Arq. Nelson Rodríguez; the Single Health Authority of La Guaira, Dr. Nelare Bermúdez, and the president of the Barrio Adentro Mission Foundation, Dr. Nellys Molina.

‎ ‎ Iturria highlighted that the work plan focuses on evaluating critical environmental threats, such as the risk of mass movements (landslides), torrential rains and the interactions of buildings with local hydrographic basins, beyond the seismic situation, to draw a general perspective on external risk management.

‎ For their part, the team from the Ministry for Ecosocialism and the Ministry of Science and Technology provided key elements on the behavior of mountain basins, the slopes of the riverbeds and the importance of incorporating simulation models based on data and social intelligence. This will make it possible to optimize prioritized care routes and ensure the continuous operation of essential health services for the Guairian population.

‎ As a result of this initial session, a three-week intensive work schedule was established. In the first phase, multidisciplinary teams composed of representatives of health, ecosocialism and communities will systematize a basic diagnostic document per hospital, in order to submit proposals for mitigation and effective action alternatives that strengthen the rebirth and comprehensive protection of the state of La Guaira.
