The Brazilian Civil Defense declared a state of emergency in six municipalities in the Southern region, affected by rain and hail in July and August, through ordinance 2,808 published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The towns are located in Paraná (Marquinho), Rio Grande do Sul (Bom Retiro do Sul, Caseiros, Jari, Rolante) and Santa Catarina (Bocaina do Sul). With this decree, mayors will be able to request federal resources for humanitarian assistance, food, drinking water and the restoration of essential services, Prensa Latina reported.
The requests will be processed through the Integrated Disaster Information System, and the work plans will be analyzed by Civil Defense technicians before authorizing the aid.
