The National Institute of Meteorology maintains active alerts in southern Brazil for the formation of an extratropic cyclone that is undergoing explosive cyclogenesis, in addition to intensifying rapidly and generating severe storms, hail falls and strong winds according to official models.
The system will record an abrupt drop in pressure between Friday and Saturday, from 967 to approximately 941 hectopascals, confirming the bombogenesis process and increasing the risk of impacts in urban and rural areas in the south of the country.
The agency issued a red alert for the central-south of Rio Grande do Sul due to great danger in the face of heavy rainfall, electric shocks and strong gusts, while the rest of that state, the central-west of Santa Catarina, the west and south of Paraná and the south of Mato Grosso do Sul remain under orange warnings and surrounding areas remain yellow.
