Burkina Faso deploys its first locally manufactured armoured vehicles

The Burkina Faso Defense and Security Forces received the first batch of armoured combat vehicles manufactured on national soil, a strategic step aimed at strengthening the African country's military self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on foreign equipment.

The units, called Nanga armored vehicles, correspond to tactical vehicles developed from the refurbishment and transformation of pickup trucks. The original body was replaced by a locally designed armored structure, with reinforced chassis and suspension systems to adapt to the operational requirements of the terrain.

The operational deployment responds to the decree signed by the transitional president, Ibrahim Traoré, prohibiting the import of armored vehicles from abroad. The measure seeks to encourage the development of a sovereign defense industrial base, guarantee the technical maintenance of the fleet and optimize equipment costs for troops.

This initiative is part of a comprehensive state industrial transformation plan that includes projects such as the TEXFORCES-BF textile complex for the production of uniforms and tactical clothing aimed at consolidating the autonomy of the armed forces in the midst of the security challenges faced by the Sahel region.
