Chávez Invicto: The Right Uses People as a Tool

The Venezuelan right continues to use people as an instrument for their internal disputes and to obtain media visibility, as stated by Commander Hugo Chávez during an event at the Teresa Carreño Theater, where he warned that opposition sectors manipulate their own bases and whom they present as “political prisoners”.

“The right wing uses the people as a tool, manipulates them according to their interests and then discards them when they no longer serve them,” said the commander, on March 13, 2010.

Commander Chávez presented the case of a former commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, prosecuted for human rights violations during the April coup, whose public letter reveals, as he pointed out, the instrumental use that the opposition leadership makes of his followers.

“It hurts me, that for five years that I have been in prison, the political parties... used my name and that of the political prisoners as flags... But with today's attitude, unfortunately I realize that we were only being used as a means to achieve their end,” the Commander quoted when reading the text of the former official.

Chávez argued that this episode highlights the nature of opposition groups, which he described as structures without ethical codes, marked by internal confrontation and the absence of a real project.

“All these groups are real gangsters... they break in with a knife, with blows, they attack each other,” he said.

The Commander made a direct call to non-politically aligned sectors, known as ni-ni, and to the opposition bases that may be confused by the media campaign.

“I speak to all the Venezuelan people... to those who call some ni-ni... reflect because those gentlemen... are going in with the knife because of a pre-candidacy. Imagine what it would be like at the time of a presidential election,” he said.
