China took a new technological leap in space by successfully carrying out the first in-orbit test of a 400 V electrical system, an unprecedented technology that promises to supply high-power missions. The project was led by the Institute of Manned Space Flight Engineering Systems of the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), with the collaboration of other research institutes and industry partners.
The information was released by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS; according to specialists, after the Tianzhou-10 ship entered orbit, the 400 V electrical system —developed entirely by Chinese institutions—gained independent control over the entire technological chain and main components, including energy generation, storage, distribution and transmission.
The project team stated that it will optimize system performance and strengthen China's space energy technology base, to support future important missions, including manned lunar exploration programs.
