China deploys emergency operation with fuel and electricity for rescue work in the port of Gyirong

The state-owned National Petroleum Corporation of China (CNPC) deployed an emergency fuel supply to the port of Gyirong to support rescue and assistance efforts following the devastating avalanche of mud recorded on August 26. The natural disaster, caused by the collapse of a glacier in the neighboring nation of Nepal, severely affected the infrastructure of the border area and required immediate logistical mobilization by local authorities.

According to official reports on the contingency, the hydrocarbon company mobilized a total of 451 tons of petroleum products, comprised of 163 tons of gasoline and 288 tons of diesel. This priority shipment made it possible to continuously stabilize the energy supply in the affected area, ensuring the constant operation of heavy machinery and emergency vehicles deployed in the sector.

So far, the authorities have verified a balance of 21 people dead and 541 missing as a result of the avalanche. Given the magnitude of the tragedy, a contingent of more than 2,300 rescuers remain interned in the area carrying out intensive search tasks, while the State Grid corporation managed to restore electricity service in a timely manner at the facilities of the port of Gyirong.

The restoration of electricity and the guaranteed supply of hydrocarbons have been essential to maintain the continuity of mitigation operations in the region. State institutions maintain on-site monitoring to sustain logistical support for emergency teams and to advance the stabilization of the border strip.
