The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, ordered the immediate activation of national response mechanisms after the 7.4 earthquake recorded in the west of the country.
The president announced on his social networks the convening of the National Committee for Disaster Management in order to articulate the institutional response to the emergency, international media reported.
The authorities work together with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) to collect information on possible impacts on the national territory.
This activation is in addition to the measures already in place to deal with the emergency in San José del Palmar, where the president instructed the installation of a Unified Command Post (PMU) to coordinate the care of the damage and the affected population.
