Congo recorded nearly 1,000 deaths from the Ebola outbreak

The Democratic Republic of Congo has accumulated 999 deaths from Ebola since the start of the outbreak on May 15, according to the latest report from the National Institute of Public Health (INSAP).

The report counts 2,473 confirmed cases, showing a fatality of 40.4% and leaving 737 patients in hospital isolation compared to 482 recovered.

Contact traceability reaches 82%, although the agency admits that this follow-up is insufficient and requires strengthening epidemiological surveillance.

Five provinces are infected: Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele and Tshopo, with Ituri as the main focus of the health emergency.
The entity warns that transmission is still active and the virus circulates intensely, despite the fact that no new health area has reported infections in the last day.
This apparent geographical stabilization must be taken with reserve, clarifies the INSP, due to delays in notification and the gradual process of data consolidation.
