Crisis, failure and corruption surround the Milei government in Argentina

Peronism won a great victory in the legislative elections in the province of Buenos Aires with an advantage of at least 13 percentage points, which has meant a resounding setback to the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) party of the neoliberal president of Argentina, Javier Milei.

The preliminary data of the Buenos Aires Electoral Board issued last Sunday, September 7, gave the victory to the opposition coalition Fuerza Patria, led by Governor Axcel Kicillof, with 46.93% of the votes. Libertarians ranked second, with 33.86% of the votes cast.

The third place was occupied by the Somos Buenos Aires coalition , with 5.41%; while in fourth place was the Left-Unity Front with 4.38%.

In the midst of this crisis, the sister of the president of Argentina, Karina Milei, who serves as his Secretary of the Presidency, turned out to be involved in a corruption scheme. According to audios quoted by the local media, La Sexta received bribes when buying medicines.

Diego Spagnuolo, former director of the National Disability Agency, said in an audio that Karina Milei should “reach between 3% and 4%”. That percentage would amount to a total of 800,000 dollars a month for the sister of the Argentine president from the extra costs of buying medicines from a single pharmacist.

Axel Kicillof, the main representative of the victory of Peronism last Sunday, said: “the polls shouted at Milei that neither health, nor education, nor university, nor science, nor culture can be defunded in Argentina.”
