Cuba commemorated the 73rd anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks

Cuba held commemorative events for the 73rd anniversary of the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, in addition to focusing its central activity on the Plaza de la Revolución in Pinar del Rio, where thousands of citizens and national authorities gathered.

The national event was led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel and by leaders of the Communist Party of Cuba, as well as by representatives of different sectors who came from the early hours of the morning to participate in the ceremony. The day included the reading of a message sent by Raúl Castro, whose absence was highlighted by his regular presence on this anniversary for decades.

In parallel, symbolic activities were held in Santiago de Cuba where pioneers reissued the historic route to the Moncada barracks at 5:15 in the morning, in addition to fulfilling an agenda of visits to historic sites and meetings with fighters of the Revolution. These actions were part of the traditional tribute commemorated every year by the operation led by Commander Fidel Castro in 1953.

Other localities such as Florida also held municipal events with the participation of social organizations and militants, in addition to including the delivery of cards and awards to prominent groups. These activities sought to reinforce the commitment to the continuity of the revolutionary process and the defense of the current political project.
