Cyclones and monsoon leave more than 50 dead and millions affected in Asia

The passage of three cyclones combined with the monsoon rains caused serious floods and landslides in several Asian countries where the death toll rises to more than 50 while millions of people were affected and rescue teams are still unable to reach several communities that were isolated by water, international media reported.

Burma has the highest death toll with 23 victims, followed by the Philippines with 21 and India with seven. In addition, in the Philippines, nearly four million inhabitants were damaged by storms, making the country one of the most affected in the region.

In China, the rise of rivers forced thousands of people to be moved to upland areas in a preventive manner, in the face of the danger that the channels would overflow and cause a major tragedy.

Climate experts warn that the situation could worsen in the coming months as a very strong El Niño phenomenon is expected to arrive, which would increase the force of cyclones in the Pacific and increase the risk of new natural disasters in the area.
