Delcy Rodríguez thanked on behalf of the People of Venezuela for Suriname's solidarity during the earthquakes

As part of her official visit to the Republic of Suriname, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, thanked on behalf of the Venezuelan people for the solidarity provided by the Caribbean nation during the earthquake emergency of last June 24.

“On behalf of the People of Venezuela, I want to express the gratitude of our people for the humanitarian aid provided by Suriname during the toughest hours of the double earthquake of June 24. The Venezuelan people will always carry it in their collective memory and in their hearts,” said the national president to the president of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.

After the signing of agreements, the Head of State emphasized the strategic relevance of the agricultural agreement aimed at guaranteeing food production and regional food security through the harmonization of animal and phytosanitary regulations, complementarity in animal genetics and the exchange of experiences in sustainable regenerative agriculture.

“It is important that we share experiences in regenerative agriculture, for respect for the exercise of agriculture, with deep respect for nature,” he said.

The national president opened the doors to the Latin American University of Medicine for students from Suriname to attend, as well as the creation of agreements with the National Institute for Training and Socialist Education (INCES) for professional and technical training.

Referring to the challenges of geographical and economic integration, President Rodríguez called for dynamizing binational trade by promoting air and maritime transport, as well as the promotion of multi-destination tourism, cultural exchange, teaching the Spanish language and promoting the community economy model.

“We are the most disconnected region on the planet. We are more connected to the north than to our own region, and all these interconnectivity agreements must pay for us to be closer every day, not only in our hearts, but also in physical closeness,” he emphasized.

The delegations of both governments agreed to hold the next meeting of the Joint Commission in Suriname during the first quarter of the year.

The Head of State extended a formal invitation to President Geerlings-Simons to visit Venezuela in the coming months, to learn first-hand about all the benefits offered by the Latin American country.
