The president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, said that Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt does not have open judicial proceedings in Venezuela or in the United States.
“On the case of Alejandro Betancourt, he was dismissed years ago in Venezuela. It has no cause in the United States of America,” he said.
He stressed that “a person is tried in the media rather than in the courts”, referring to the dissemination of allegations without legal support.
She recalled that Spanish media accused her for five years of transporting gold on a Falcón plane to that country, a version that she described as false. He indicated that, when the information was clarified, “there were only three lines” in the press that confirmed that his trip responded to an official invitation and that the version released had no technical basis, because “a plane doesn't take off with that amount of gold”.
The president in charge reiterated that the dissemination of data without verification affects public understanding of the facts and stressed the importance of timely and truthful communication to prevent unfounded versions from replacing judicial decisions or official investigations.
