The National Institute of Public Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo reported that Ebola infections in the African country exceeded half a thousand.

As of June 6, the nation recorded 515 infections and 91 deaths, in a health crisis that worsened after dozens of infected people fled medical facilities.

According to government reports, at least 30 patients escaped their isolation complaining of a limited availability of care, including nutritional support, international media report, which also report that the emergency has already reached Uganda, with 19 infections and two deaths.

The majority of cases are found in the eastern province of Ituri, where ongoing armed conflicts and the lack of laboratory reagents hinder epidemiological tracing, managing to identify only half of the contacts exposed to the virus.
