Deputy Minister Castillo: assets abroad will be for reconstruction and earthquake victims

The Deputy Minister of Anti-Blockade Policies, William Castillo, said this Wednesday that Venezuelan assets held abroad will be used for the reconstruction of the country and the care of the victims of the double earthquake of last June 24.

“The money has to be in Venezuela, or in any case it has to be monetized, that is, converted into currency, for reconstruction, because that's what the agreement says,” he told a private television channel reviewed by Úlcias Noticias.

In addition, he explained that it is very important to highlight that “the commitment is that they will only be used for reconstruction, debris collection, care for all the victims of the double earthquake”.

Castillo added that resources need to contain a national oversight and auditing system, thus mitigating accusations of alleged diversion or misuse of contributions.

The Deputy Minister also specified that the resource recovery process will not occur immediately, but will be implemented gradually.

“Hopefully that will be quick (...) Obviously, that has a legal, legal management and it has the political management that will be the dialogue committee,” he said.

On August 12, the first cycle of dialogue between the national Government and the delegation of the National Assembly in 2015 ended, and it was agreed that both parties will concentrate efforts to promote the recovery of Venezuela's international reserve assets in the Bank of England, establishing transparency, traceability and auditing mechanisms in their efficient use, to guarantee the well-being of all those affected by the earthquakes, among other things.
