Director of the CICPC: Crime has decreased in the course of 2026

The Director General of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), senior national commissioner general Douglas Rico, provided a detailed assessment of the public security landscape in the national territory.

The commissioner emphasized that, thanks to the consolidation of the perfect popular, military and police fusion, combined with the strategic implementation of the Great Quadrants of Peace Mission, during week number 32 of this year, only 920 crimes were registered nationwide.

When comparing the performance of 2025 and that of 2026, he highlighted important advances in the reduction of crimes with the greatest social impact. For the crime of homicide, 79 fewer victims were registered compared to the previous period, 56 fewer cases for the crime of personal injury, 122 fewer cases for the crime of physical violence and for the crime of rape there has been a reduction of six cases.

Rico also specified that the current rate for the crime of homicide stands at 1,067 victims per 100,000 inhabitants, consolidating a downward trend in criminal violence in the country.

During the speech, he noted a slight increase in the crime of vehicle theft, noting that this increase corresponds specifically to the theft of motorcycles.

He also reiterated the unwavering commitment of the men and women who make up the CICPC to continue to guarantee peace, peaceful coexistence and social justice in every corner of the country.
