The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPBS) of Paraguay confirmed the receipt of formal resignation by doctors in the public network, in the context of an escalation in the labor dispute driven by unions in the health sector in demand of wage and labor demands.
The central requirement of professionals lies in establishing an equalization and differentiation of income based on the level of academic training and specialization. Currently, the state budget allocates a uniform base salary without distinguishing between general practitioners, specialists or subspecialists.
Faced with the increase in dismissals in hospitals, the director of Health Networks and Services of the MSPBS, Gustavo Ortiz, acknowledged that negotiations are still open, stating that “nothing remains fixed, these are issues that are being discussed. There's that margin.”
The resignation of professionals sets off alarm bells in the public health system in the face of the imminent risk of a shortage of qualified personnel in critical areas, especially affecting the coverage of low-available specialties such as pediatric surgeons
