Earthquake in Colombia paralyzes its coffee exports

The export of Colombian coffee is facing an almost total suspension after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that affected the southwestern area of the country, reported the Coffee Exporters Association (ASOEXPORT).

The earthquake caused blockages on the Cali-Buenaventura highway, preventing access to the main grain exit port in the Pacific, according to the Telesur Telegram channel.

Gustavo Gómez, president of the union, said that coffee operations remain paralyzed and that there is no official communication about the reopening of the road corridor.

The measure directly affects scheduled shipments from the producing regions of Cauca, Huila, Nariño and Valle del Cauca, all impacted by the seismic event.

Although the ports of Santa Marta and Cartagena are presented as a logistical alternative, their viability is limited due to distance and additional internal transport costs.
