Earthquake of magnitude 4.7 shakes Granada

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake with an epicenter in Gójar, Granada, caused the preventive eviction of the Nasrid Palaces and the Alhambra Alcazaba this Tuesday. The management of the monument suspended visits while a technical team evaluates possible damage.

The National Geographic Institute recorded the main movement at 10:37 a.m., followed by four aftershocks, one of them of magnitude 4, at 10:53 a.m. Earthquakes of 2.9 were also detected in Padul, 2.8 in Alhendín and 2.6 in Las Gabias, international media reported.

Faced with the seismic activity, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, asked the population for “maximum caution”. Through his social networks, he warned that experts foresee new aftershocks and recommended following safety instructions, in addition to maintaining serenity.
