Earthquake of magnitude 4.8 was recorded in Peru without leaving damage

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 woke up residents of Lima early this Wednesday morning without material or personal consequences, local authorities confirmed.

The Geophysical Institute of Peru specified that the earthquake occurred at 05:28 local time, with an epicenter located 42 kilometers southwest of the district of Lurín and a depth of 42 kilometers, Telesur reported.

For its part, the Peruvian Navy ruled out any tsunami warning on the coast, while the South American nation's National Institute of Civil Defense reported no damage to infrastructure or victims.

The Ministry of Defense urged citizens to have a family emergency plan and a backpack with basic supplies, due to the high seismic vulnerability of the Peruvian capital.
