The Colombian Geological Survey (SGC) reported a magnitude 5.1 seismic event recorded at 11:45 a.m. this Wednesday, August 26, with an epicenter in the municipality of Los Santos, department of Santander. The earthquake originated at an intermediate depth of 149 kilometers and was perceived with remarkable intensity in the city of Bucaramanga.

According to the official report, the tremor was widely felt in neighboring municipalities such as Floridablanca, Piedequita and Zapatoca, as well as in departments such as Boyacá, Antioquia, Caldas and in the country's capital, Bogotá. The shock generated momentary anxiety in urban and residential areas during midday.

In the face of the seismic event, relief forces immediately activated preventive safety protocols with the orderly evacuation of tall buildings, university campuses and public facilities in the Santander capital. In the same way, local authorities proceeded to install a Unified Command Post (PMU) to centralize care for potential emergencies.

In the preliminary assessment after the inspection work, risk management agencies confirmed that there are no injuries or significant damage to the region's infrastructure. Prevention teams will maintain constant monitoring in areas of greatest seismic sensitivity.
