Ebola outbreak in Congo celebrates four months and exceeds 3,500 fatalities

The Ebola outbreak registered in the Democratic Republic of Congo marked four months since its official declaration, exceeding the figure of 3,500 people who died in the midst of a severe health emergency, according to the latest balance sheets presented by the country's health authorities.

According to a report by the Telesur news network, the rapid spread of the virus in the eastern provinces has forced the strengthening of epidemiological fences and accelerating the deployment of medical brigades to serve communities in areas at high risk of contagion.

The Congolese Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) indicated that armed violence in the region and the constant mobility of the displaced population have hampered contact tracing and the effective distribution of vaccination doses.

Faced with the spread of the epidemic, international organizations reiterated their call to the global community to channel emergency resources, guarantee essential medical supplies and prevent the collapse of the health system in the most affected areas.
