The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) warned of a scenario of low growth and high economic uncertainty for the region, characterized by the impact of adverse external factors and limited fiscal room for maneuver in several countries of the block.
In its most recent economic assessment, the United Nations agency projects a moderate pace of expansion for regional economies, pressured by volatility in commodity prices, the persistence of high interest rates and the slowdown in global trade.
Against this background, ECLAC urged governments in the region to implement public policies aimed at boosting productive investment, strengthening regional integration and creating formal employment, as essential ways to energize productive structures and reduce socio-economic inequality gaps.
