Ecuador: Earthquake of magnitude 4.3 reported in the province of Guayas

The Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School reported
this Monday an earthquake of magnitude 4.3 in the coastal province of Guayas, in
southwestern Ecuador, with no casualties or material damage reported so far.
The institution noted that the earthquake occurred in the early
hours of the morning at 2.07 degrees south latitude and 79.84 degrees
west longitude, with a depth of 62 kilometers and 9.59 kilometers from the municipality of Durán.
Ecuador is located in the
Pacific belt or ring of fire, which concentrates some of the most important subduction zones in the
world and is the scene of strong seismic activity. There are also
countries such as Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica,
Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States and Canada.
