A forest fire devastates northeastern Portugal with an area already exceeding 15,000 hectares burned. The affected area includes forests, olive groves and vineyards of economic relevance to the region, Sputnik reported.

The emergency mobilized 900 members of the rescue services, who work to control the flames. Authorities ordered the early departure of residents in several locations close to the active focus.

The provisional balance sheet shows five people with minor injuries, including three firefighters, and a total of 21 homes that suffered structural damage. The Civil Protection coordinates the operation with 317 vehicles and 12 aircraft to launch water on steep terrain.

The technicians believe that the response has contained the progression of the fire, although they warn that areas at risk of reactivation remain. The removal and surveillance tasks will be extended without interruption in the next few hours.
