Forest fire in Austria forces 150 residents to evacuate

A forest fire in Sankt Egyden am Steinfeld, in Lower Austria, caused the evacuation of 150 residents due to the advance of the flames, which are one hundred meters from the houses, local authorities said.
The extinguishing operation mobilizes 700 firefighters from 84 brigades and seven helicopters, while strong winds complicate tasks and could extend work for several days, so the Neunkirchen City Council activated a crisis committee, Telesur reported.
The outbreak originated around noon in a sector other than the 100 hectares affected last week, and the Red Cross deployed 44 troops with 21 vehicles to assist the victims.
