The head of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability and Minister for Transport, Francisco Garcés, reported that a total of 62,547 homes have been inspected after the recent earthquakes of last June 24.
In statements collected by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), Garcés explained that of the houses inspected, 35,000 have habitable conditions with a green label, another 14,701 have moderate damage and 11,072 severe damage.
He also emphasized that structures classified with yellow and red labels must undergo a second and third phase of detailed reinspection, which will include specific measurements to certify the level of damage and determine the range of damage.
The official urged citizens to carry out repairs to the affected buildings strictly under the supervision of a recovery project backed by an engineering professional, following the technical guidelines established by the committee of the presidential commission.
In the same way, he indicated that engineers who apply alternative repair regulations must formally document them to notify the corresponding mayor's office, thus ensuring safety in the rehabilitation of buildings damaged by earthquakes.
