Germany: Chaos at Hamburg Airport after security breach

The airport in the German city of Hamburg experienced a day of operational chaos after the Federal Police ordered the total evacuation of the security zone and the suspension of all takeoffs. The measure was caused by a person who, after pressing an emergency button on a door of Terminal 2, managed to access the restricted area without control.

Because of this security vulnerability, the authorities proceeded to evict all passengers who had already completed their screening process, including those who were already on board their planes. Although the responsible individual was quickly arrested, the decision was made to conduct a thorough inspection of the entire sector.

The situation has generated a significant interruption in services, with reported delays of up to three hours on information screens.

Travelers have expressed their annoyance at the uncertainty, because so far no clear deadline has been established for the full restoration of air operations.
