Government of Spain identifies 2,000 minors in Ceuta to speed up their family reunification

In order to expedite assisted return efforts to Morocco, the Government of Spain identified 2,000 migrant minors who remain in Ceuta after recent mass entries across the North African border.

According to Iberian news media, the state plan contemplates channeling the situation of children and adolescents as a matter of priority through family reunification files, while reinforcing the health and triage infrastructure in the border entity.

Referring to the deployment in the areas of El Tarajal and the port, the Spanish Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, asserted that “we have managed to open more than 3,500 places where there were less than 800, incorporate 50 more officials for triages and we have regained normality in the delivery of meals”.

Torres highlighted the speed with which institutional staff work, stating that “we have accelerated the implementation of spaces with the desire that as soon as possible we can expedite all returns”, guaranteeing basic care for the mobile population.

The extraordinary system responds to the migratory pressure that began last July 30, when the autonomous town counted the entry of more than 70,000 irregular migrants, and to date temporary tents and shelters have been maintained to manage the permanence of those who are still waiting for the resolution of their legal status.
