Last Monday, July 28, the Colombian Public Prosecutor's Office requested nine years of house imprisonment for the father of paramilitarism, Álvaro Uribe, and imposed a million-dollar fine for the crimes of procedural fraud in the first instance and bribery in criminal proceedings, although he was considered innocent of the crime of bribing witnesses.
The judge, Sandra Liliana Heredia, determined that there is no evidence to support the absence of crimes on the part of the former president.
Judge Heredia added that “for the conduct for which Uribe Vélez is convicted (...), whose punishment starts at an amount greater than four years and less than eight, while the accused, regardless of the sentence to be imposed, deserves house imprisonment as a substitute for imprisonment.”
