Indonesia temporarily closed six airports after the eruption of the Anak Krakatoa volcano

The Government of Indonesia announced this Sunday the temporary closure of six airports due to the eruption of the Anak Krakatoa volcano, a measure affecting more than 370 flights.
The Ministry of Transport of the Asian nation reported that due to the dispersion of volcanic ash to the provinces of Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Lampung and Bengkulu, five airports on the island of Java will be temporarily closed: Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Budiarto, Pondok Cabe and Husein Sastranegara, in addition to Radin Inten in Sumatra.
The general director of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, said that more than 22,000 passengers will be affected only at the international airport of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, on international routes that connect with Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, Seoul, Doha, Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur; and on domestic routes that originate or destination Denpasar, Lampung and Surabaya.
Meanwhile, the director of the Indonesian Geological Agency, Lana Saria, explained in a statement that the Anak Krakatoa volcano, located in the Sonda Strait, between the islands of Java and Sumatra, registered an eruption last Friday night that ended this Sunday and ruled out a tsunami risk, international media reports.
