On June 16, 2026, the town of Mayfadoun, located in the district of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, was the target of three consecutive drone attacks carried out by the Israeli Army. These bombings specifically hit the town's main square, an area where residents had gathered to assess previous damage caused by the offensive.

According to reports from the Lebanese National News Agency, the dynamics of the attacks followed a highly dangerous pattern, affecting both vehicles in transit and areas where civilians tried to help those affected. Despite diplomatic advances resulting from the recent preliminary agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which provides for a cessation of hostilities, military operations in southern Lebanon have not stopped.

The cumulative balance since the beginning of the conflict, on March 2, 2026, now amounts to 3,826 people dead and 11,851 injured throughout Lebanon. On the same day, other violent incidents were recorded in neighboring towns such as Shoukin, where the impact of another drone resulted in the death of two additional people, raising the number of fatalities today in the region.

Faced with this situation, the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and the Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, have intensified their efforts to coordinate national unity and prepare for the next rounds of diplomatic negotiations. It is expected that the final details of the peace agreement, which seeks to put an end to the escalation that began more than three months ago, will soon be formalized in Geneva.
