Colombian Senator Iván Cepeda, representative of the Historical Pact coalition and the Alliance for Life, announced this Wednesday his acceptance of the electoral results that appoint lawyer and businessman Abelardo De la Espriella as elected president of Colombia.
The parliamentarian said that his decision responds to the need to respect democratic mechanisms and actively contribute to coexistence, peace and dialogue in the country.
Despite the recognition of the ballot box verdict, Cepeda launched severe criticism against the development of the electoral contest. The congressman publicly denounced open and undue foreign interference by the government of the United States (USA) and President Donald Trump, stating that there were international pronouncements and pressures aimed at favoring the candidacy of De la Espriella.
In addition, the leftist leader accused the elected president's campaign team of having carried out a massive vote-buying operation in different regions of the national territory.
The legislator also noted the implementation of sophisticated strategies for manipulating public opinion through the use of artificial intelligence tools, which would have operated systematically during the days before the ballot.
The opposition senator argued that the combination of these practices seriously damaged the transparency of the process and sows deep doubts about the legitimacy of the incoming government.
Cepeda warned that his political block will maintain a strict surveillance stance from the Legislative Branch to defend voter rights and the nation's institutional guarantees.
