Jacqueline Faria: Two months after the earthquakes, 1,476 homes have been recovered and delivered

Two months after the earthquakes recorded on June 24, the president of the Great Venezuela Renace Mission, Jacqueline Faria, reported that to date a total of 1,476 homes have been recovered and delivered, a task that has allowed the return to their homes of an equal number of families that previously stayed in temporary camps.

During an interview with the Primera Página program, broadcast by Globovision, when explaining the scope of this figure, Faria specified that “there are more than 1,476 homes already recovered, delivered. What does that mean? That the house that was heavily impacted by the earthquake, was diagnosed, repaired and handed over to the family. And the family that was in a temporary camp (...) has now been able to return to their apartment.”

He noted that currently the deployment of repairs exceeds 17,000 homes nationwide. “Every week, the president asks us how many are already finished and we do a delivery activity that covers 300, 200, 150, according to the fact that not all of them take the same time, it is according to the impact that the house has received,” she said.

Faria also gave an account of the actions taken to recover impacted housing and highlighted that more than 70,000 people have benefited after the rehabilitation of their homes.

“The balance is positive, as of today, we have 2 months and 22 days, and we can already say that there are more than 70,000 people looking at their home being repaired. It's an extraordinary thing,” he said.

In this regard, he stressed that more than 7,400 workers in the masonry area are deployed in seven states of the country, and specified that each worker has received the appropriate training and material to perform their tasks optimally.

On the other hand, Faria explained that for the evaluation of buildings, an international method based on structural traffic lights has been applied, based on the creation of the Presidential Commission for Habitability.

He recalled that the double earthquake of June 24 became the largest natural phenomenon in the history of earthquakes, affecting mainly the state of La Guaira; however, other states in the country were affected.

According to the statistics presented by Fanía, 58% of the homes inspected are in green condition, corresponding to buildings with minor fissures in which their inhabitants can remain.

23% were classified as yellow, a category that includes homes whose residents can use the facilities during the day, but where it is temporarily not recommended to spend the night due to their conditions.

While 18% of the cases were identified as red, which implies that the buildings require a second thorough inspection by the Presidential Commission to determine the corresponding recovery actions.

“The president has created a plan that covers the entire government. A plan to return security to homes with a lot of science, with a lot of technology, with all the technical processes necessary for people to be sure that they will return to their safe home. This is how we have been working in La Guaira, in Caracas, in Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, in Falcón, in Yaracuy. In all these states, we have been working with affected housing,” he said.
