The activist Julian Assange filed a criminal complaint in Sweden against the Nobel Foundation for having authorized the award of the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 to the far-right María Corina Machado, a decision that, according to him, contradicts Alfred Nobel's mandate and facilitates international crimes. He asks for the immediate freezing of the 11 million Swedish kronor corresponding to the cash prize.

Assange argued that Swedish fund managers violate their fiduciary obligation by allowing a disbursement that, in his opinion, supports military escalation. The complaint was filed with the economic and competent authorities responsible for war crimes, denouncing the leaders of the Foundation for having converted an instrument intended for peace into a mechanism that legitimizes armed interventions.

He alleged that Machado promotes U.S. military intervention in Venezuela and supports operations that have caused the death of civilians, which would make it incompatible with the award criteria. It also collects the objections of organizations and experts who question their suitability.

Assange called for a full investigation and warns that allowing the award to be awarded would permanently turn the Nobel Peace Prize into an instrument contrary to its original objective.
