Latin American oil production grew 10% in April 2026

Oil extraction in Latin America and the Caribbean registered a 10% year-on-year increase during the month of April 2026, a period in which it reached a production volume of 318 million barrels, according to data released by the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (Olacde).

Activity in the region was led by Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela, nations that together accounted for about 70% of the total extracted. In terms of foreign trade, intraregional supply covered 54% of the value of the area's imports, while 79% of exportable production went to large centers of global consumption.

In the natural gas segment, regional extraction reached 21.7 billion cubic meters, representing an increase of 8.5% compared to April 2025. Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago led gas production with a share of 22% each, followed by Brazil with 14%, Bolivia with 12% and Mexico with 10%.

The OLACDE report specified that more than 70% of the extracted gas was consumed within the continent itself, cushioning the impact of possible interruptions in international trade. Faced with global geopolitical uncertainty, the agency called for accelerating interconnections, cross-border infrastructure and intraregional agreements to ensure energy security in the area.
