Leaders agree to strengthen multilateralism during the 81st UN General Assembly

The President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, pointed out during his speech at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, that all pulsating states should “firmly defend and strengthen multilateralism”.

“We need multilateralism to address our shared agenda, which ranges from armed conflicts to climate change, to sustainable development and AI,” he added.

In the same way, he stressed that Finland will remain fully committed to the work of peace and diplomacy motivated by belief in the Charter of the United Nations and the values it defends.

“Today we must restore balance to the world order. We must recommit to the fundamental principles of the international order and we must choose cooperation over conflict. What the world needs now is a new moment like the one in San Francisco, a time when world leaders come together to set the course,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Chile, José Antonio Kast, spoke for the first time at the 81st UN General Assembly, where he highlighted the multilateral coordination of the Latin American region.

“Latin America can be the continent of the next decade, not because anyone allows it, but because we have the capacity and will to do so.”

For his part, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie, pointed out the importance of collaboration and trust between nations. Trust between people. And, more importantly, trust in our ability to work together to strengthen coordination between countries.”

He also stressed that in the face of global conflicts, the values of the United Nations Charter must be respected, which “called us to join forces to maintain peace and strengthen international security and, above all, to save future generations from the scourge of war.”
