The government of Lebanon announced this Wednesday the start of intense diplomatic efforts to definitively consolidate the ceasefire in the southern region. President Joseph Aoun reported on these efforts aimed at stabilizing the border area.
The strategy envisages as immediate priorities the total withdrawal of Israeli forces and the coordinated deployment of the Lebanese army. This seeks to ensure territorial control and allow the safe return of displaced civilian residents.
The president explained that the plan includes the establishment of pilot zones designed to evaluate the effectiveness of military withdrawal. This initiative is currently under review and pending final approval by the Israeli authorities.
Key discussions are currently taking place in Washington, at a trilateral negotiating table between Lebanon, the United States (USA) and Israel. The objective of this meeting is to address the technical mechanisms necessary to restore stability and the full authority of the State in the demarcation.
The presidency specified that these talks are being carried out independently of the bilateral meetings held by delegations of the United States and Iran in Switzerland. In this way, Beirut seeks to shield the local pacification process against the dynamics of regional geopolitics.
