The wrestling competition won two gold medals in the Greco-Roman modality and said goodbye with eight general titles in the championship of this discipline of the XXIII Santa Fe 2026 South American Games.

The participants Raiber Rodríguez (60 kg), Luis Avenaño (87 kg) and Luillys Pérez (97 kg) led the conquest of new gold metals at the close of competitions in the discipline.

The story of Avenaño was written with complete mastery of the 87 kg competition, leaving the Brazilian André Ramos on the road for technical superiority (9-0) and later, by the same route, the Argentinian Pablo Djamkotchian (9-0).

In the same way, in the decisive fight, Avenaño won the Peruvian Carlos Espinoza by technical superiority (9-0), with which he won the gold medal in the category.

Luillys Pérez re-registered his name in the stellar positions of the regional fight after being crowned in the 97 kg. In addition, he dominated the actions in the first confrontation for technical superiority (13-5) against the Peruvian Ricardo Cárdenas, followed by a victory by points (5-1) over the Argentinian Ricardo Gómez.

The following decisive fights were fought with the rival's immobilization: he left a first overall technical score of 10-0 against the Ecuadorian Jean Zambrano and, in the final contest, he succeeded against the Brazilian Raphael Rodrigues with a technical score of 7-1.

Continental champions with eight titles

With the victories of the fight, Venezuela equaled the 31 golds achieved in Asunción 2022, when there is still one week of competition left in the South American Games in Santa Fe.

The Venezuelan fight became champion with eight gold medals, three silver and one bronze, and is the first national team to win a title so far in this edition of the Games among the sports that have also lowered the curtain.
