Lula da Silva leads voting intention for the 2026 presidential elections in Brazil

The current president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, leads the preferences for the next presidential elections with 42% of the intention to vote in the first round, according to the most recent public opinion study by the firm BTG Pactual/Nexus, conducted between September 11 and 13.

In the breakdown for the first electoral round, the head of state registered an increase of three percentage points compared to the previous measurement. In second place is right-wing senator Flávio Bolsonaro with 37% of the votes, followed by Augusto Cury with 6% and Governor Ronaldo Caiado with 5% of the electorate's preference, Telesur said.

Faced with a possible second round or ballot, the study projects a scenario of high competition in which Lula da Silva would obtain 47% of popular support compared to 46% of Flávio Bolsonaro. Both candidates showed slight upward variations compared to the previous poll, maintaining a tight dispute in the final stretch.

The BTG Pactual/Nexus study shows the consolidation of two major political blocs in the South American country as different forces adjust their territorial strategies and government programs for the electoral contest.
