Magnitude 6.3 earthquake shakes the Philippine island of Mindanao

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, according to the United States Geological Survey, in addition to being recorded 10 kilometers deep and 32.2 kilometers from Sarangani without preliminary reports of damage or issuance of a tsunami warning.

The Civil Defense authorities and the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management confirmed the event with initial data that placed the intensity at 7, although with different criteria for its evolution because Civil Defense quoted the seismological agency Phivolcs stating that no aftershocks are expected, while the National Council raised the magnitude to 7.1 and warned that new movements may occur in the area.

The earthquake occurs in a region that is still facing the consequences of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake recorded last June 8, in addition to leaving nearly 100 dead, a thousand injured, 100,000 displaced and more than 50,000 homes affected.
