Mexico on alert for category 4 hurricane Polo

Mexico activated all its institutional resources in the face of the threat of Hurricane Polo, which is advancing across the Pacific towards the Baja California peninsula and keeping millions of people on alert in the northwest of the country.
The National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) issued an urgent call to all three levels of government and the population to reduce risks in the face of a phenomenon that remains category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
The center of the cyclone was located 520 kilometers southwest of Cabo San Lucas and 635 kilometers south of Cabo San Lázaro, in Baja California Sur, with sustained winds of 220 kilometers per hour and higher gusts, moving to the northwest at 17 kilometers per hour.
The director of the National Weather Service (SMN), Fabián Vázquez Romagna, warned that the country must prepare for a double blow in the coming days. According to the official forecast, Polo would first make landfall in South California, probably degraded to category 1 or 2, and then, on Tuesday, it would hit the coast of Sonora for the second time, already converted into a tropical storm.
