Military helicopter crash leaves at least 17 victims in Democratic Republic of Congo

A plane crash in the Democratic Republic of the Congo left a preliminary death toll of at least 17 people after an aircraft belonging to the Ministry of Defense crashed. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the capital, Kinshasa, between Friday night and the early hours of this Saturday, according to Telesur.

Among the dead are 13 soldiers and four civilians, including a child. According to official reports issued by the Ministry of Defense, the fatalities include senior officials of the institution, including two generals, the president of the Supreme Military Court and the chief auditor of the Armed Forces.

So far, the exact circumstances that caused the helicopter to crash are unknown. The impact area was cordoned off by security agencies to protect the scene, while the authorities indicated that it has not yet been possible to recover the aircraft's black box to determine the causes of the incident.
