Minister Garcés: We have carried out more than 65 thousand infrastructure inspections after the earthquakes

The president of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Habitability, Francisco Garcés, took stock three months after the earthquakes of June 24, where he highlighted that more than 65,000 infrastructure and housing inspections were carried out with a deployment of four thousand professionals among engineers and architects distributed in the seven states.

In an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), referring to the figures, he specified that “the first phase of the work consisted of inspecting damaged structures so that the safety of those who live there is no compromise.”

“There was an enormous deployment for more than a month in which more than 65,000 inspections were carried out (...) in Caracas, a little more than 30,000 were carried out, a little more than 20,000 in La Guaira and then the rest of the country's entities,” he said.

He also noted the advances in research on the earthquake, included in the three-phase plan, where, together with researchers from Stanford and Chile, it was concluded that the earthquakes that affected the nation have “one of the highest peaks in history recorded by seismology.”

In this regard, Garcés highlighted the progress made in the reconstruction phases in close collaboration with Plan Venezuela Renace. “The first and second phases are a yellow and red inspection to determine in depth the type of damage they have, the classification of the damage and what are the strategies to approach it for its repair,” he said.

He also reported that the third phase is operational thanks to mayors, governorates and the Venezuela Renace Plan, instances with which intervention priorities are received for the generation of the corresponding projects.

Garcés provided an overview of the progress made in infrastructure inspection in the Capital District, La Guaira and the state of Miranda.

The balance of buildings details 10,383 yellow structures without structural damage compared to 5,261 with damage of this type, while in the red category there are 5,508 due to external risk, 4,720 with total structural damage and 16 with non-structural damage.
