Ministro Garcés: Maiquetía International Airport receives its first flights today since 24J

The Minister of Popular Power for Transportation, Francisco Garcés, reported on the formal start of domestic and international air operations from the new temporary terminals of the Maiquetía “Simón Bolívar” International Airport, built in a record time of 35 days after the damage caused by the recent earthquake.

“It is fully operational from its temporary terminals, with capacity to serve 720 passengers in the international area and 496 passengers on domestic flights, achieving a 25% recovery in air operations.” Garcés said.

He reported that four international flights are leaving today and the same number is expected to arrive.

He emphasized that the new infrastructure covers more than 10,000 square meters (one hectare) adapted to all airport standards, user service areas, security measures, radar systems, radio aids and operational parking runways.

“This logistics solution, developed in conjunction with the Valencia Terminal, will immediately reactivate 25% of operations prior to the seismic event, with the goal of achieving 40% capacity in two months and 60% by the end of the year,” he said.

Garcés called on users to plan their arrival at the facilities 2 hours in advance for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights. “The flow of care remains fluid, so there is no need to spend the night in the venue or arrive more than five hours in advance,” he said.
